Explorer Post 1050
Explorer's are between the ages of 14 and 21 and have an interest in helping the community as well as learning about Law Enforcement. As Explorer's they spend hundreds of hours annually to assist in major events in Newport Beach and in the rest of Orange County. At these events Explorer's may do numerous duties like crowd control, parking control, and directing traffic. As Explorer's, they are there to represent the cities Law Enforcement and establish a safe environment with the assistance of other Police Personnel.
As Explorer's they receive training in many fields of Law Enforcement so that the Explorer can get the knowledge of each particular position in the Police Department. Training consists of SWAT Tactical training such as Hostage Rescue, Tubular Assault, High Risk Search Warrant, and Field Raids. They also get classes in CSI and participate in K9 demonstrations. Training in the day to day Patrol is also taught like traffic stops, armed suspects, hand cuffing and pat down, and much more. Radio codes are also learned through the training so the Explorer's are able to understand Police radio traffic and use in radio use with other Explorer's. The opportunity to go on Ride-alongs with Patrol is also common and a good glimpse into life in the shoes of an Officer.
Through the Explorer Program you will obtain self confidence and leadership experience. In addition to a greater respect for Law Enforcement world wide.
In the Explorer Post, it consists of the Advisors who are Officers from the Police Department, the Explorer Captain, Explorer Lieutenants, Explorer Sergeants, Explorer Corporal, and the Explorers.
